On Sunday, 28 October 2018, the Czech Republic will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the foundation of independent Czechoslovakia in 1918 following the end of World War I.
Czechoslovakia was founded in the aftermath of World War I as one of the successor states of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The Central European country then existed (with a brief interlude during World War II) from October 28, 1918 to December 31, 1992, before officially splitting on January 1, 1993 to form the independent Czech and Slovak Republics. In 2018, both countries will be celebrating one-hundred years of existence and commemorating all that they have shared with the world together.
During the weekend 26.10. - 28.10., plenty of events, such as a military parade on Letná, concerts, and a march to Wenceslas Square or a fireworks, will take place in Prague to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia.
